Uphill struggle

Those of you who know me, either in real-life or over a period of time of reading this blog, will know that a period of silence often means that something isn't quite right.  This week has been one of those times.  Over the past week we have had to face the fact that dealing with stairs is becoming more demanding than is good for Dick and so we have had to work out how overcome this challenge.

After several different approaches, we have finally settled on having a bed put in the dining room so that Dick can rest and sleep in there without having to deal with the long hike up the stairs.  Of course we have to fit in delivery around lots of other commitments - my birthday lunch on Sunday is something that Dick has organised and he is determined that the small inconvenience of becoming totally breathless when going upstairs, won't stand in the way of him having friends and family around!!  The bed will have to wait until Monday.  Thanks to some lovely friends, they will take the dining room table and chairs to their stables and store it for us.  Until then Dick has a lunch to organise!

It hasn't been an easy few days but now we have accepted that this is what is going to happen, we are happier and more settled.  Together with our "visitor-free" day each week, it should make Dick's life a little easier.  (The visitor-free day is so that we can have long lie-ins and even a PJ day if necessary!  No visitors............not even nurses (unless of course it is essential!)  But don't let that put you off!  There are 6 other days in the week and Dick still loves visitors.

Sounds like Dick has a right Birthday treat in store for you Sally, the PJ day sounds even better, nothing better than lounging around doing whatever you wish and if that means staying in bed till late then all the better. Have a great day on your birthday if you dont blog before. Both of you take care.

Sally Sounds like Dick has got your birthday really sorted. i'd love a PJ day each week, but I think going to church in my PJ's might not go down too well. Send you both our best wishes.

Have a lovely birthday Sally, and enjoy those pj days - I do love a day like that myself. I hope the new bed arrangement works well for Dick so he is no longer struggling with the stairs.

Hi ya. Good on you for the race - I'll be sponsoring as whatever length - (and what an event the marathon was on Sunday!) I take my hat off to anyone who can run (or even jog!!) How's the training going?! Away for a few days next week, will be in touch after. Have a wonderful Sunday, and big hug to Dick from me. Love Helen x :-)

"Dear Sally and Dick, Am thinking of you both , but am a techno- phobe when it comes to logging onto blogs to put some comments ,things seem to disappear into the ether - so have had to ask Anne to do the business for me. According to the blog - Dick you went to PC world so you must be pretty switched on , I must be doing something wrong!!!.Quite what - is the question? I am off on Friday with Chris for his company inventive trip, so wont be around for the next girls gathering. Love to you both Juliette x( and Chris)"

Just caught up with a few days worth. good luck with the run. Have a great birthday and good luck with your furniture moving. Just read about you both declining any more chemo. Dave and I made the same decision. It must have been so hard on you both. Take care.

Good luck with the arrangements for sunday (Happy Birthdays to both Sally and Tom) and to the arrival of the new bed! We are all out on Monday so are unable to help but could do something useful on tuesday if you still need help then!
