The boys are back in town

Dick wanted to go to town but being a bit incapacitated at the moment, getting around is difficult.  So he decided that he would have a go at using the Shopmobility electric scooters which you can hire for the princely sum of ¬£4.50 per day.  I knew there would be trouble!  The flesh may be weak but the spirit is strong and once he felt the sense of independence and speed (in comparison to walking!) he was off!  Tom was with him - I decided to leave them to it (the possible trail of devastation was a deciding factor!) and as soon as he set off for the lift, it was apparent that if he could have done a wheelie on it he would have!

A buggie or two were nearly taken out and he had cause to test the emergency brakes on more than one occasion.  (Actually the look on Alison's face as he went flying into Loot at top speed was a sight to behold!)  As someone remarked, "You can just imagine the music "The boys are back in town" blaring out as he went.  Mind you seeing Tom trying to keep up with him put someone else in mind of the Benny Hill theme tune.

The upshot of it was that Dick really enjoyed himself.  He had a huge amount of freedom which he can't normally have, visited all the places he wanted to go to and generally had a blast.  Of course after an hour he had had enough but he will be back to visit again I think.  (I might just wear running shoes I think!)

I have a picture in my head now of the scenes in Winchester yesterday which will keep me giggling all day! Hopefully Loot featuring in the shopping trip means there might be a lucky girl come the weekend?

Sally remember it is good practice for race for life. I'm sure Alison was delighted to see Dick arrive in the shop even if it was on 4 wheels. It sounds like he had fun.

Winchester was hit with a vengeance - you paint such a vivid picture of the boys in action - what a trip! Glad it went well, and fun was had by all.

Hope you have a wonderful birthday.

I think we all need warning of the next time so we can choose to witness the event(or avoid it maybe!)

I presume that Dick was suitably attired, crash helmet, leathers… so what was Tom wearing? Maybe he should try rollerblades so he can keep up.

That sounded a great experience, obviously Dick is a natural racer. Best wishes for your birthday - just try to miss the rain.

The shopmobility scheme is such a fab idea, try the Southampton one too. I used them both a few years ago and the independant feeling is such a relief and the little basket on the front so useful for those purchases too! Sounds like a huge success.

oh the memories stir of being with my Mother on her scooter as she demolished a display of toilet rolls in a superdrug store some years ago hahahah! I also have pictures of my little one sitting on her knee as she whizzed around the shopping centre, you have to laugh eh? She can't really use it much anymore but I am sure she would agree with Dick that its a little fun and brings some much needed freedom and independence. Enjoy the moments Dick :D
