Holidays, gardens and quilts

I have been lucky enough to be away for a few days in France. The weather was dreadful but we battled on regardless and visited some beautiful places. Charente is a beautiful but understated area and we stayed in a beautiful old chateau.

e nearest town is Brantome and it is picturesque and very French.

We saw little in the way of crafts although there are a few potters in the area.

Just before we left Winchester, we visited the Festival of Flowers at Winchester Cathedral and my goodness, what a wonderful display there was.

I thought this display was very inspirational as the basis of a quilt.  There are so many straight lines, patterns and reflections.

Finally a few more pictures of the garden.  I am going to do a three day course with Ineke Berlyn in August and have chosen my garden to be the inspiration I am going to work from for the Journal Quilts and Sketchbook course. The late summer has made the colours brighter and the flowers more lush than usual and they make wonderful sight.

Flowers on the front patio - I put the hanging baskets out to catch the rain yesterday.

A friend of mine describes it as sumptuous, I think it is bucolic!!

I think a few ideas of inspiration will come from these, don't you?

Finally at my day at Committed to Cloth this mont, we played around with discharge processes.  It didn't turn out to be one of my favourite processes but it is good to try and I think more experience may change my attitude to it.
